History
Methapharm is a privately held, specialty pharmaceutical company that began operating in 1996 as a spin-off from the ACIC group of companies.
Methapharm specializes in the ownership and management of niche, branded pharmaceuticals and medical devices, specifically those concerned with the diagnosis of asthma, oncology and organ transplantation. The organization is licensed to sell prescription drugs in all 50 American states and is an establishment licence holder in Canada.
Originally, the diagnostic drug known as Provocholine® (Methacholine Chloride USP Powder for Inhalation) was produced by Hoffman LaRoche. However, Hoffman LaRoche encountered problems in both the supply of reliably pure chemical ingredients and the approval of the drug in North America. By 1996, Roche Pharmaceuticals chose to license Provocholine® to the ACIC Group, a company that specializes in the supply of active pharmaceutical ingredients and finished products to pharmaceutical companies. Methapharm was initially created to focus on manufacturing and marketing Provocholine® effectively, first in North America, then to other international markets.
Subsequently, Methapharm has evolved to market and distribute products and devices from partner companies by leveraging our experience and existing infrastructure.
